Maintenance of the currency supply

Bank of Finland is the monetary authority in Finland. Its tasks include issue of banknotes and coins. Notes and coins circulate in banks, shops and consumers, and are returned to the Bank of Finland several times a year for verification. Notes in good condition are returned to circulation, whereas worn-out and torn notes are withdrawn – the Bank of Finland sees to it that the notes used are in good condition and genuine. This process is referred to as maintenance of the currency supply.

This video clip shows how cash circulates in our economy and how cash is periodically returned to the central bank for verification.
